A filmmaker, making a documentary on boxing movies from the earliest films such as HIS PEOPLE to the latest, hears that during the 1950s only Carmen Basilio avoided entrapment by the mob. The filmmaker wants to find out if this is true. If so, he will change his project and make a film about Carmen Basilio (Of course, this is the film we are watching). The filmmaker sets out to video interview Carmen but discovering that Carmen’s physical and mental health are failing, all he obtains is Carmen’s rehashing of what he had told countless times to the press, friends, and family. Soon after this interview Carmen dies. So begins the quest of seeking the truth about Basilio from those who knew him intimately. Each interview leads to flashbacks of the Basilio story. As the interviews and reenactments mount, each in their own chronological order, we reveal several “truths” about Carmen’s life leaving each person in the audience to arrive at his or her own conclusion. The film moves between documentary and dramatic segments as periodically we see the film- maker sitting with his editor assembling the footage.

Led by future Heisman Trophy winner Ernie Davis and legendary coach Ben Schwarzwalder, this group of hard nosed young men pushed their way to the top of college football in 1959. An improbable story with an improbable ending, where hard work and total dedication created a remarkable undefeated season.

Guided by legendary coach/owner George Halas, the 1963 Chicago Bears came together to produce one memorable season. Their story, told through the eyes of the players and coaches who were there, provides a humorous and compelling look back at professional football in the early 1960s.
